HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT

In October, 1984, under the direction of Director of Tran Hung Dao Hospital, Dr Tran Ly Nam Anh, Tran Hung Dao Hospital's Faculty of Pharmacy prepared to shift its activities from the task of serving 200 beds for general hospital to serving a specific orthopeadics center for Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces.

 

Standing on the new assignment, under the consultant of Dr. Le Kinh, Dr. ran Tan Phat, Dr. Nguyen  Ngoc Chung…, the Faculty of Pharmacy promptly made a plan for:

 

a) Preparing equipment and medical tools for:

- 4 newly established operating rooms (converted from the Internal Medicine 3)

- Imaging Diagnostic Department with 4 cameras to replace the old X-ray room with only a camera.

- Establishing a physiotherapy room, a preservative room (previously is the casting unit in minor surgery room).

- Exploring the specialized consulting area with 5 new rooms, expanding the minor surgery room

- Establishing a new emergency room (detached from the ICU), new surgery room.

 

b) Taking over some equipment from the Orthopedics faculty of Binh Dan Hospital

c) Transferring medical equipment, drugs, specialized equipment for obstetrics, dentistry ... to Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital and An Binh Hospital.

 

The Faculty of Pharmacy changed its structure:

• Moved from the old position (in the middle of the hospital) to the faculty of Pregnancy and reorganized the Faculty

• Researched drug requirements, specialized equipment of the orthopeadics

• Expanded equipment and tools warehouse

• Established an equipment repair and maintenance unit

• Established a production room for external medicine (disinfectants and wound cleaners)

• Increased the production capacity of the infusion solution.

• Expanded the center oxygen chamber to increase productivity threefold.

• Dissolved the Pharmacognosy and Chinese medicine production room

 

With the support of other departments and faculties in the Tran Hung Dao Hospital, the Faculty of Pharmacy has achieved good preparation in the establishment, met the requirements of providing medicine and medical equipment for the specific orthopeadics to adapt to the establishment of the Orthopeadics Center in Ho Chi Minh City on May 18, 1985.

The Faculty of Pharmacy of the Tran Hung Dao Hospital has transformed itself into the  Faculty of Pharmacy of the Orthopeadics hospital with 16 personnel.

SPECIALITY OPERATIONS

Functions of the faculty of Pharmacy:

The Faculty of Pharmacy is a speciality department that is under the direct leadership of the Hospital Director. The Faculty of Pharmacy manages all work and is an advisor for the Hospital Director in the pharmacy area in the hospital in order to ensure the prompt and adequate supply of quality medicines; consults and supervises the safe, reasonable use of medicines.

 

Mission of the faculty of Pharmacy:

- Plan and supply medicines in sufficient quantity and quality for treatment needs;

- Manage and monitor the drugs receipt, storage and dispension for treatment needs and other unexpected needs as requests.

- Be a focal department for the organization and implementation of the Drug and Treatment Board.

- Preserve the medicine according to the guideline of "Good Storage Practice".

- To perform clinical pharmacy work, inform and counsult drug use; participate in the pharmacovigilance; monitor and report information related to adverse drug reactions.

- Manage and monitor the implementation of professional regulations on pharmacy at the hospital departments.

- Perform scientific research and training; be the practice place of universities, colleges and secondary schools in the pharmacy.

- Coordinate with the sub-clinical and clinical departments to monitor, inspect, evaluate and supervise the safe and rational use of medicines, especially the use of antibiotics and monitor the antibiotic resistance situation in the hospital.

- Participate in cost monitoring of the drug use.

- Manage the operation of hospital pharmacies in accordance with regulations.

- Perform the task of supplying, monitoring, managing, supervising, inspecting and reporting on medical consumables (cotton, bandage, alcohol, gauze) and antiseptic chemicals.

OBJECTIVES AND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTIONS FOR THE 2015-2020 PERIOD

 - There is a plan to train qualified staffs in Clinical Pharmacology in order to well perform Clinical Pharmacology as guidance in the Circular No. 21/2013 / TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health for mangement of Clinical Pharmacy in Hospitals;
- Deploying drug delivery and dividing drug doses to patients in faculties: Recovery Faculty, Emergency Faculty, Pediatric Faculty ...
- Combine with the Drug Information Unit to develop a Drug Information Bulletin in the hospital, enhance the ADR surveillance for helping safe and effective use of drugs.
