I/ THE PROCESS OF ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT:

·        Founded in 1985 by Dr. Tran Thanh My as Dean with 32 inpatient beds, Deputy Dean Vo Van Chau, Nursing chief Doan Thi Vinh Nghiep and Huynh Thi My.

·        In 1996, Dr. Nguyen Van Thai was Dean of the Faculty, Associate Dean Nguyen Thuc Boi Chau, MD Nguyen Lan Anh, and increased to 82 inpatient beds.

·        May 05, 2014 Dr. Nguyen Thuc Boi Chau is the head of department, Nursing chief Nguyen Lan Anh, and the Faculty has 82 beds.

III/ PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:

·        Treatment for all upper limb injuries and disabilities.

·        Guidelines and treatment guidelines for traumatic injuries and orthopedics for lower levels.

·        Training and training of students, basic specialists, specialists 1st, 2nd, MA, Ph.D., Pham Ngoc Thach University and University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

·        Instructing and teaching nursing students Nguyen Tat Thanh School, Southeast Asia Middle School.

·        Building and developing the Ho Chi Minh City Hand Surgery association  to become the leading scientific association in the field of hand surgery.

 

IV/ACHIEVEMENTS:

·        All staffs in the faculty are well-coordinated, well-abide by the State's policies and Laws and the hospital's regulations.

·        Completion exceeds the level of hospital beds allocated, 2009: 139%, 2010: 165%, 2011: 120%, 2012: 132%, 2013: 128%, 2014: 111%

·        The Upper limb department is the first place in the country to treat shoulder instability and rotator cuff by arthoscopy. From 2007 the number of cases have operated on 200 cases with good results, patients are very satisfied with the outcomes.

·        The department is also the first in the country to carry out shoulder replacement for patients with commuted proximal humeral fractures and necrotizing osteonecrosis.

·        The doctors in Upper limb department also have many valuable scientific researches which have been accepted and reported at many specialized conferences in the country. Only from 2010 to now, these doctors has a total of 23 research topics are reported and published in prestigious newspapers in the field.

·        In the situation of overcrowding of the hospital, the upper limb Department has focused on early and timely surgery for severe patients, priority for patients are the elderly, students, families policy, rural areas in a reasonable way. Moreover, they have been also participating in transfer operation for hospitals in the country.

·        The Upper limb department has donated money and presents  on charity day to help poor and needy patients and is the most contributing faculty in charity clinics. Taking part in the blood donation movement twice a year and about a third of staff attending to the blood donation.

·        Organized 13 times Ho Chi Minh City hand surgery conference, the number of domestic and foreign participants have contributed ideas and share experience in the field of treatment of upper limb injuries as well as hand surgery.

·        All individual doctors, nurses, janitors of the faculty have achieved the title of advanced labor 100%, 04 individuals have won the title of emulation fighter at basic level for many years, 03 doctors are named 01 Excellent Certificate of Merit, 01 Labor Medal of Grade III, 03 Certificate of Merit of People's Committee, 02 City-level Emulation Fighter.

 

            Other tasks:

·        Participating in politics "living and working following the example of President Ho Chi Minh", communication behavior, sea island situation.

·        Master and implement good democratic regulation in the hospital.

·        Participating in overtime hours to increase the income of the faculty.

·        Active participation in union and basic trade unions has won many awards for faculty and hospitals.

·        Youth union members in the faculty actively participate in charity clinics in remote areas. Guiding the patient to the hospital. Joining on green sunday (paint stairs, general hospital cleaning)

·        Joining the charity day on September 1 every year to support the hospital's poor patient fund.

 

V/ OBJECTIVES AND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTIONS 2015-2025

·        Continue to promote the spirit of learning: training 03 more Ph.D, 02 specialists 2, 04 nursing bachelors, 02 Master of nursing.

·        Performing high-tech intensive: Total shoulder Replacement, elbow replacement, hand – finger joints replacement, Elbow- wrist arthoscopy.
